GRAHAM, Texas (KAUZ) – As Graham prepares for the annual Texas Food Truck Championships, the city is clearing several spaces in the plaza for trucks to park during the summer.
The main goal is to introduce a variety of food and beverage options to the plaza, but they are relying on feedback before making anything permanent.
Food trucks are a big event in Graham, especially once a year when more than 50 food trucks fill the plaza for the Texas Food Truck Championship, but one local owner is wondering if they can operate in the plaza beyond that weekend. We asked the city, and they started working on a policy.
City Manager Eric Galetti hopes to begin test operations a few days after the Food Truck Championship, scheduled for June 1st.
“From June 3rd, food truck operators who want to set up their food trucks on the plaza on a regular basis will be able to rent space. We want to do it,” said Graham Mayor Eric Galetti.
The trucks will be assigned three locations, and vendors will have to pay a $75 fee each time they stay there.
The current focus is on getting feedback during commissioning.
“Both for the food truck vendors themselves, local businesses downtown, and residents. ‘Do you like it? Don’t you like it? Is three enough?'” to do when creating new policies. All good things to do is get feedback to make sure we’re meeting the needs of the community,” Galletti said.
The city will consider what vendors need in terms of space and make sure the permitting process is smooth for both parties.
Food truck owner Bob Bratcher shared his thoughts on the test drive.
“Graham’s was always having events and stuff downtown. We have live music almost every weekend, if not every weekend. These trucks come and people check out different foods from different neighborhoods. “I think it’s a great opportunity to do that,” said Bob Bratcher, owner of Daddy’s Bob Smokewagon.
“We hope this food truck endeavor is successful and in that respect, we’ve had a very good experiment during this trial period. We’ve gotten very good feedback and we’ve come up with a solution that works best for the community,” Galletti said.
The city tracks feedback in a variety of ways, including on its Facebook page.
The food truck test run will run from June 3rd to September 3rd.
