Hezbollah, which quickly became involved in the war that broke out between Israel and Hamas, fled the north of the country to Israel. Since October, both Israeli and Hezbollah forces have launched multiple attacks on each other, with many senior Hezbollah commanders killed in Israeli attacks. Hezbollah leader Sayed Hassan Nasrallah said that in 2021, Hezbollah will have 100,000 fighters. According to estimates, Iran-backed Hezbollah receives millions of dollars in aid from Tehran every year.
It is now certain that Israel will enter into war with Hezbollah in Lebanon, rekindling a possibility that has been mentioned often since the start of the conflict. Israel announced yesterday evening that a senior Hamas official was killed in an attack 40km inside Lebanon. The deadly Hamas member was identified as Ayman Gatma.
The United States is fully committed to supporting
A few hours after the escalation, a CNN International report stated that the US would undoubtedly provide strong support to Tel Aviv in a possible Israel-Hezbollah war. In fact, the American side itself warned Beirut against such a war, saying it would be disastrous for Hezbollah and Lebanon.
According to U.S. officials, Washington is preparing to provide major military assistance to Israel because Israel has no chance of winning the war on its own, but U.S. military involvement in a war between the two countries is not currently on the table. Since the start of the war, Israel has injured hundreds of Hezbollah members in attacks and killed about 70 of its fighters.
