A survey conducted by Casino.org ranked Walt Disney World as the most rip-off tourist spot in the United States.
Casino.org created its list of scams by first finding the top results for “scams” on Google Trends and TripAdvisor, then surveyed more than 5,000 American participants about this data in January 2024.
Respondents rated the top three most common scam items as college textbooks (No. 1), credit scores (No. 2) and movie theater snacks (No. 3).
Walt Disney World No.1 Tourist Scam
60% of respondents said Walt Disney World was the biggest rip-off when it came to tourist attractions, which made it the most rip-off place in the state of Florida.
Single-day tickets to Walt Disney World theme parks start at $109 and vary depending on the theme park and date. For example, the cheapest ticket for Tuesday, February 20, is $164 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. A ticket to Magic Kingdom will cost $184. And that’s without the park hopper option, which allows you to visit multiple parks in one day.
Following Walt Disney World in second and third place on the list of rip-off attractions were the National Mall in Washington, DC, and the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. Rounding out the top 10 were the Statue of Liberty, the Space Needle, the Gateway Arch, Navy Pier, Hoover Dam, All Faithful, and Glacier National Park.
