Nonprofit rating organization Charity Navigator has nominated Project Angel Food for a 2024 Community Choice Award in the Large Organization category, recognizing the organization’s commitment to impactful and transparent philanthropy through the provision of medically sensitive meals and more.
Project Angel Food has achieved remarkable success, including receiving a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, receiving perfect scores in all assessment categories: impact and measurement, accountability and finances, leadership and adaptability, and culture and community. This achievement ranks Project Angel Food in the top 1% of nonprofits evaluated and highlights their dedication to excellence in service and organizational integrity.
The Community Choice Awards are divided into four categories based on the size of the organization: small, medium, large and extra large. The winners, determined by public vote, will be announced on August 17. Public voting will run until July 17, with the top three finalists in each category announced on July 22, followed by a 10-day period of final voting.
Winners will be prominently displayed on Charity Navigator’s platform for one year and will receive an email announcement to Charity Navigator’s donor base, dedicated social media posts and a press release.

Founded in 1989, Project Angel Food has provided more than 18 million medically tailored meals to individuals facing food, economic and health insecurity. Last year, the organization served a record 4,134 clients, up 11% from 2022. Project Angel Food’s community of 3,446 volunteers contributed more than 40,812 hours in 2023. Meals designed by chefs and registered dietitians meet the specific nutritional needs of each client’s medical diagnosis, often prescribed by a health care provider.
