TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The University of Tampa baseball team made history on Saturday by winning its ninth national championship.
The team defeated Angelo State University in North Carolina, 8-3, to win the 2024 NCAA Division II national championship title.
University of Tampa wins first women’s lacrosse national championship
The Spartans played at the USA National Training Complex and finished the season with a 52-8 record.
The second-ranked Spartans were down 2-0 through the fourth inning but rallied back in the sixth, scoring six runs.

Tampa’s EJ Cumbo reached 400 career hits, becoming one of just three players in NCAA history to accomplish the feat, joining an elite group that included Wichita State’s Phil Stephenson (1979-1982) and Clemson’s Khalil Green (1999-2002).
The ninth national championship ties the Spartans with Florida Southern University for the most wins in the division, and the win marks their sixth national championship since 2000, the most of any school at the NCAA level, according to the university.
