Our national team qualified for the quarter-finals last night after a historic 2-1 win over Austria thanks to two goals from Merih Demiral. UEFA has launched an investigation into Demiral’s celebration after scoring the goal. While politicians have poured in support for Demiral, AK Party spokesman Omer Celik and AK Party Bursa deputy Mustafa Varank have reacted harshly to German Interior Minister Feser’s post about Demiral.
German Interior Minister Nancy Feser said: “Symbols of the Turkish far-right have no place in our stadiums. It is completely unacceptable to use the European Football Championship as a platform for racism. We expect UEFA to investigate the matter and consider sanctions,” she said.
“They should look at their own history first.”
Mustafa Varank quoted Fayzer’s post and wrote, “Melih’s goal celebrations are values that belong to this land. We are proud of our footballer and are always with him! Those who call our national team player’s goal celebrations ‘racist’ should look first. LGBT propagandists and those who praise the PKK do not expect those who greet us to understand Turkish people,” he responded.
“unacceptable”
AK Party spokesman Omer Celik said, “The statement by German Interior Minister Nancy Feser and the investigation launched by UEFA targeting the goal celebration of German national football player Merih Demiral are unacceptable. Those who call for racism and fascism have recently focused on this issue.” The results of elections in various European countries have been announced. “It will be implemented,” he said in the message.
“There’s no need to write long.”
Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Bak shared a photo of Meri Demiral’s joy and wrote, “There is no need to write for a long time.”
“We don’t feed our children.”
Gaziantep Metropolitan Mayor Fatma Sahin also responded to UEFA’s decision. Fatma Sahin said on social media: “They have no say in Israel, which has destroyed all the values of humanity, but UEFA has immediately launched an investigation for turning our lion-like cub into a ‘gray wolf’. Our minister writes what is necessary, but I am a mother, so don’t take me there 🙂 We will not feed it! ” he said.
“I am proud to be Turkish.”
On Merih Demiral making the grey wolf sign while celebrating his goal, he said: “I’m very happy to score two goals. I had a goal celebration in mind and I did it. It has something to do with Turkishness. I’m very proud.” “I’m Turkish. So after the goal, I felt in my skin that I wanted to do something like that. I’m very happy with my actions. All our fans are proud of us. I saw our fans doing it in the stands. I saw them and I wanted to do more. We are all Turkish. So I did the goal celebration. It’s normal. Our Turkish fans are proud of us too. I hope you will continue to do it. I don’t have a message. I just wanted to show how proud and happy I am,” he said.
