University of Connecticut coach Dan Hurley probably won’t go hungry again at Connecticut.
Some of the state’s hot spots are setting him up to be fed for life.
“Lakers vs. UConn, L.A. vs. Storrs. It’s a David vs. Goliath kind of matchup,” said Reno Ouellet, manager of J. Timothy’s Tavern.
First, J. Timothy’s Taverne in Plainville tweeted the two-time championship coach, “Coach, let me know anytime you want a wing! For life!”
One of the co-owners of Martin Rosol’s Butcher Shop joined the thread, offering free hot dogs and kielbasa, and Frank Pepe’s Pizza tweeted “Same here for Pepe” after Coach Hurley announced he would be staying in Storrs.
“We were trying to do everything we could to keep him at the University of Connecticut,” said Tim Rosol, co-owner of Martin Rosol Meat Shop.
Rosol added that he and his family are big fans of the University of Connecticut.
“I went to the University of Connecticut. My brother went to the University of Connecticut and I met his wife there. We go to University of Connecticut games and we have season tickets,” Rosol added. “It was a great relief to hear he’s coming back. We’re trying to win our third straight championship.”
Customers are also looking forward to the boys’ basketball team and Hurley winning their third consecutive championship.
“I’m just excited for him, his family and his team. You look at the guys that came back because they wanted to play with him. I think it’s great that he’s staying here,” said Jeannie Ziomek of Middletown.
The J. Timothy’s staff wanted the Huskies coach to know how much he was appreciated.
“It just shows you that a small state can care this much,” Ouellette said.
