The Cleveland Kosher Food Pantry will hold its annual Volunteer Appreciation Day at the Waxman Chabad Center, 2479 S. Green Road in Beachwood, on June 17 from 7:30 p.m.
This year’s Rivka Goldstein Volunteer of the Year Award goes to two longtime volunteers, Marcia Arons of Beachwood and Merrill Kaplan of University Heights. They were recognized for their work helping prepare food packages for the pantry’s drive-thru distribution each week, according to a news release. The award is named for the pantry’s former managing director, Rivka Goldstein.
“Although it has been a difficult year for the Jewish community, there is also much to celebrate,” food pantry director Sarah Yaffe Alevsky said in a statement. “This year we have sought even more ways to connect with one another and serve our neighbors.”
Pantry manager Tami Wittkes said in a press release that Arons and Kaplan have been coming to the pantry regularly, “rain or shine,” twice a week for the past five years to help pack pantry bags.
“They are a constant presence at KFP and their cheerfulness, compassion and joy in helping others is contagious,” she said. “We are thrilled to recognize these two outstanding volunteers this year.”
A short program will follow the dessert reception. Participation in the celebration is mandatory. If you would like to attend, please email celebration@kosherfb.org or call the KFP office at 216-382-7202.
