One person was killed and eight injured when an apartment building collapsed in Turkey on Sunday.
Firefighters were called to the scene after the five-storey building collapsed in Istanbul’s Kücukcekmece district at 8.40am (5.40am UK time).
Istanbul Governor Davut Gul said at the scene that seven people were initially pulled from the rubble, two of whom were seriously injured.
Firefighters later found the body of a man from Turkmenistan and one other injured person.
It is unclear what caused the 36-year-old building to collapse, but there were no signs of an explosion or seismic activity.

The top two floors of the building were used as apartments, but Turkey’s Urban Development Minister Mehmet Ocaşeki said they were built on X date without complying with standards.
He added that the extra floors were added later illegally. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya also said two people had been detained: the building’s owner and the operator of a restaurant on the first floor.
This comes a year after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck southern Turkey and Syria, killing more than 59,000 people.
