The Turkish Grand National Assembly plenary session, held under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker of Parliament Celal Adan, discussed “Drafts to Amend Certain Laws and Decrees,” including regulations on savings measures.
“Yesterday, regulations on stray animals began to be discussed in the Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Affairs Committee, we all witnessed it,” said CHP Group Vice-Chairman Gökhan Günaydin in the section where the group vice-chairs of the General Assembly spoke. Images that were unbecoming of the Turkish Grand National Assembly appeared one after another. First, who was it that the doors of the National Assembly were barricaded, so that people who asked for the return of stray animals could come here. Those who asked to kill them, those who asked to keep them alive. It seemed that a barricade was built against all these people, but in fact it turned out that it was civil society that rose up to keep the animals alive. Organizations, democratic mass organizations, specialized organizations, they were not allowed in. So what happened to those who were able to get in? First, the narrow meeting hall of the Agriculture and Forestry Committee was shown, but when? There was not enough for everyone, so the corridors of the Planning and Budget Committee were occupied by the police. I have never seen such a scene in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. In the corridors of the National Assembly, the police are pulling away citizens who are trying to enter the chamber with their lawmakers one by one, holding them by the hands and feet to prevent them from entering the committee. This is an unthinkable scene. It is considered appropriate for the parliament. The lawmakers are there with banners in their hands, trying to create trouble. Let me be clear: the Republican People’s Party has listened to the voice of the people here. We predict that all living things can coexist. “Of course, we feel the pain of the people who are suffering from stray dogs and are taking the necessary precautions to prevent this, but this cannot happen with the brazen and outdated practice of killing,” he said.
