Turkey plans to send a large business delegation to Qatar to hold a major business-to-business (B2B) conference to explore business opportunities in key areas including digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI), the country’s top diplomat in Doha said.
Speaking to Gulf Times on the sidelines of the Project Qatar 2024 opening ceremony, Turkey’s ambassador to Qatar, Dr. Mustafa Göküs, assured Turkey’s “brotherly support” in helping achieve Qatar’s National Vision 2030 and the country’s digitalization efforts.
He said a business delegation from Turkey is scheduled to arrive in Qatar “after the summer season in October or November.” He said the Turkish embassy in Qatar is ready to facilitate B2B meetings between Qatari and Turkish companies to identify promising investment avenues, especially in emerging areas such as AI and digital technologies.
The ambassador also noted that this year’s Turkey Pavilion at Project Qatar will feature a range of products and services from around 18 companies, which is “much more” than the number of participating companies last year.
“The participating companies are already exporting to Qatar, the Middle East and other countries around the world. Qatar has always been a very important country for us. We are bringing more companies on board every year because this market is very important,” the ambassador explained.
Goks also noted that the growing number of Turkish companies participating in the annual Project Qatar reflects their confidence and optimism towards the Qatari market.
“We are very confident in the Qatari market. Turkiye has completed many projects in Qatar and is currently participating in ongoing projects in the country,” he said.
The ambassador noted that trade volumes between Qatar and Turkey have been steadily increasing since 2023, despite an expected drop in trade after the FIFA World Cup 2022. The ambassador noted that in the run-up to the World Cup, Turkey was involved in a number of large-scale projects related to Qatar’s preparations to host the World Cup, which will be the first in the Middle East.
