Trillion Energy International has begun an operations program at Turkey’s SASB gas field that is expected to last two months.
The company said in a news release that the work is being done in several phases and involves seven to eight wells in the SASB gas field, which is located off the coast of Turkiye in the Black Sea. This includes all six wells drilled and completed last year, as well as several older wells that have experienced waterlogging issues in the past.
According to Trillion, approximately 54,134 feet (16,500 meters) of velocity string, new wellheads and other material have been ordered and are being received continuously at an onshore base adjacent to the port of Acacoca. Service contractors have been hired for perforation, well tractor and piping services, and an ocean vessel has been tasked with transporting the equipment 8.7 miles (14 kilometers) offshore.
Trillion said it will drill 49 metres of gas in four wells starting in mid-June, followed by installation of the initial velocity string in the AKK-3 well. The gas velocity string, which limits the amount of water entering the tubes to prevent water loading, is expected to improve well performance and stabilize production long term. The June work will take place on the Akcakoka platform, including the Gurk-2, South Akcakoka-2, West Akcakoka-1 and Akcakoka-3 wells. Work is expected to be completed within 20 days.
The company will begin the second phase of work in July to install gas velocity strings in six more wells and two tripods on the Acacoca platform. One or more older wells that were not included in Trillion’s 2022-2023 drilling program will also have pumps installed as needed, the company said.
In a previous statement, Trillion said it plans to evaluate further exploration opportunities around the SASB development license area, which currently is 12,385 hectares. Trillion is currently mapping reprocessed 3D seismic data to determine and propose a new exploration work program in and around the SASB block. New reprocessing techniques have improved the resolution of the seismic data, defined new exploration targets and revealed new potential reserves and resources in SASB.
Trillion Energy also signed a farm-in agreement with Derkim Poliüretan Sanayi ve Ticaret AS to acquire 50% working and revenue rights to three oil exploration blocks covering 151,484 hectares (374,325 acres) within the newly defined Cudi-Gabar oil region in southeast Turkey.
The company said it is negotiating a joint operating agreement that will see it provide certain services to Trillion for a three-year period.
Trillion Energy is focused on leveraging its natural gas assets in Turkey to produce oil and natural gas for Europe and Turkey. The company owns a 49% interest in the SASB natural gas field in the Black Sea Natural Gas Development and has a 19.6% interest in the Cendere oil field.
