ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – This week, Players de Noc is bringing local history to life.
The Escanaba Theatre Company will host “Playing Dead: A Cemetery Walk with Players de Noc” on July 16th, 19th and 20th at Lakeview Cemetery.
Lakeview, Escanaba’s oldest cemetery, is the resting place of such notable people as Sand Point Lighthouse keeper Mary Terry, Michigan Lieutenant Governor James McDonald, wife of the last Great Lakes pirate, House of Ludington owner Katherine Christie, and early Mayor and Alderman Ole Erickson. Cast members from Players de Knock play the roles of ghosts and talk about their lives and contributions to the community.
“They’re real people,” said director and performer Catherine LeDuc. “They’re part of the history of our town and it’s really important that as kids grow up in this area, they learn about the history of the town and I hope we can contribute in our own small way to that. You can’t know where you’re going if you don’t know where you come from.”
“Playing Dead” begins at 7pm on all three nights, with tours departing every 10 minutes until 8:30pm.
Tickets are $17 and are on sale now at playersdenoc.org and at the Bonifas Arts Center. Tickets will also be available at the entrance of Lakeview Cemetery, 2110 3rd Ave South. For more information, click here.
