Devlet Bahceli’s harsh statements about the People’s Alliance and the AKP-CHP talks prompted a series of statements, first from AKP spokesman Omer Çelik and then from MHP deputy chairman Fetih Yıldız. In response to Çelik’s comments without naming Bahceli and the MHP, Yıldız said, “The People’s Alliance will continue to be right-wing and will fully enjoy fundamental rights and freedoms, and will guarantee democracy, human rights and the rule of law.” Yıldız said, “Kumfır said, ‘This alliance is not just an electoral alliance, but a national and moral stance against hostile efforts against Turkey both at home and abroad, and a historical unity that will be maintained within this framework.'”
After meeting with President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdogan and CHP Chairman Ozgur Özer at the CHP headquarters, MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli said, “Our commitment to the People’s Alliance will continue with determination and our support for the proposed legislation in the Turkish Grand Huraa will continue as well as in the National Assembly.”
Following this statement, Fethi Yildiz, MHP’s Deputy Chairman for Legal and Electoral Affairs, also shared a post about the People’s Alliance on his X account. Yildiz’s post reads as follows:
“The People’s Alliance was born as a natural outcome of the regional and national stance against the attacks that Turkey suffered after the betrayal coup and invasion movement attempted by FETO on July 15, 2016. The national consensus born in Yenikapı was established in 2016. 2017. It was strengthened by the referendum to become the National Council, and with the establishment of the People’s Alliance before the elections of June 24, 2018, the People’s Alliance was embodied with a moral and political consensus based on the survival of the nation and stood on the side of the people. The People’s Alliance, which guarantees the full enjoyment of the just people, fundamental rights and freedoms, and guarantees democracy, human rights and the rule of law, is not just an electoral alliance, but a national and moral stance against internal and external hostile attempts against Turkey. And the historical unity maintained within this framework, the goal of Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk to rise above the level of modern civilization, is the will to ensure that the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish state, a state of national unity, will survive forever. The determination to seize it. “
