Özgür Özer’s response to the government: This is not a pay raise, it’s a betrayal of retirees!
Responding to Special Operations Chief Suleyman Karadeniz, who went viral for bringing up an image of MHP Chairman Debret Bahçeli kissing his hand, Ezer said: “You are mistaken in being a state police officer. State officers act like civil servants. We do not accept him kissing the hand.”
“We have instructed the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.”
Regarding the deaths of two people electrocuted in Izmir, Ezer said, “As long as the state’s negligence is evaluated based on the identity of the dead and the position of those responsible, the problem will not be solved.” Noting that he had issued instructions to the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality after the incident, Ezer said it would do what was necessary to identify and punish those responsible.
“We call on the arrogant Ali Ruza Yıldırım: Either give the workers what they deserve or we will come and touch their foreheads,” Ozel said, referring to images of Yıldırımlar Holding’s owner, Ali Ruza Yıldırım, threatening workers.
“We will oppose the death penalty to the end.”
Reacting to the proposed law including euthanasia submitted to parliament by the AKP, Ezer said his party is completely against the proposed law. “They have introduced the death penalty law. As the CHP, we are completely against this proposal,” Ezer said.
Pensions Pension response to the government
Ezer ended his speech with a message on the economy, reminding us that while there have been increases in almost everything else, the minimum wage has not.
“Everything has gone up, from needle to thread. The only thing that hasn’t gone up is the minimum wage,” Ezer said, noting that the minimum wage has fallen by 4,000 lira since January.
Reacting to the decision to raise the minimum pension to 12,500 liras, Ezer said: “Six months ago, when the minimum pension was 10,000 liras, 25 kilos of minced meat were bought, but yesterday it was reduced to 16 kilos. Today, the minimum pension is 10,000 liras. “You stole 5,000 liras of minced meat from the pockets of pensioners. This is not a pay increase, it’s a betrayal of retirees,” he said.
The key points of Ezer’s remarks are as follows:
“Those who targeted the will of the people on July 15 attacked democracy, but they were repelled. The CHP is, without a doubt, an organization that has a historically hostile relationship with the aforementioned terrorist organizations and communities. We have been fighting them for many years and drawing attention to their dangers.” The minutes of this parliament, especially the warning speech by the late Kamel Genç, pointing out the mistakes made, are available, but what we are listening to today is full of statements that do not benefit anyone, but that embrace its distorted structure. And about that structure of betrayal, the attempted coup of July 15, which is the essence of any coup, I would like to remind you that the whole country, the whole world, is looking at the opposition and looking directly at the eyes of the main opposition.
That night, we gathered at the headquarters with 16 friends and appealed, “Today the parliament is closed. Let’s demand the opening of the parliament.” We said, “Let’s go and make our case.” We who proposed the opening of the parliament and Mr. Ismail Kahraman, who opened the parliament, met here…Our chairman, Mr. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who entered the parliament together and resisted the coup, also arrived in Istanbul. When we contacted him late and faced difficulties, along with his attitude, we were the group that showed the clearest attitude against the coup. Bülent Tezkan connected to CNN live broadcast and said, “It’s time to defend democracy. It’s time to stand on the tanks.” Mr. Levent Gök and Mr. Tekin Bingöl called for resistance to the coup.
“What the CHP has not given up on is parliamentary system.”
Every member of Congress and every state legislator there that day stood up for democracy, for Congress, and for the will of the people.
Sometimes they say: “Doesn’t the CHP want a stronger parliamentary system anymore?” Frankly speaking, the party has proposals on how to govern this country on every issue: supporting the struggle for the rights of workers, workers, journalists, freedom of the press, and the highest level of democratic standards, agriculture, national education, foreign policy, and defense industry, and will emphasize with full transparency how it will govern in stages leading up to the next elections. The CHP’s unwavering preference for the country’s governing system is a strong parliament, that is, a parliamentary system. No one should doubt this.
“State employees will act like public servants.”
Those who put up pictures of Ataturk on buildings that never had them on July 15, those who said we made a mistake, that we emphasized loyalty instead of merit, are now repeating the same mistakes. That is why I emphasize the importance of well-trained and qualified personnel, and loyalty to the country, not to a community, party or individual.
We will never accept that a person in uniform who receives a salary from this country kisses the hands of people who represent a part of the political spectrum. Civil servants will behave like civil servants. Politicians will also be aware of their responsibilities. The police are the police of all of us, and the soldiers are the soldiers of all of us. The Republic of Turkey is not anyone’s registered property. When a civil servant shakes the hand of a political leader, I think it is necessary to remind that civil servant of the necessity of the obligations he assumes, regardless of which of us is the interlocutor.
Two detainees killed in Izmir
As long as negligence is assessed in this country according to the identity of the person who died and the position of the person responsible, the problem will not be solved.
We issued the following instructions to the mayor of the capital region from the very first moment regarding this case: We will fully cooperate with the prosecutors and do our utmost to identify and punish those responsible.
“The whole issue is anger at unnecessary privatization.”
As the CHP Chairman, I promise you all, my friends are going to apply for the establishment of a parliamentary investigative committee on this issue, for this we will all work together. If an accident happens, they might touch us, I say no, maybe they will touch us, but I say remove the obstacles.
Privatization of electricity will cut off electricity to farmers in July. Electricity in the city of Isparta was cut off. The main problem itself is the unnecessary privatization trend in all areas. This issue needs to be investigated in detail.
“We stand with the victims of the Ijuneda incident.”
Six of our citizens were flooded and drowned in the Sisli Valley in Isneada. The legal battle has been ongoing for 10 months. The facility was found to be illegal and a decision was made to demolish it, but this was not carried out. The public officials have no right to justice. We are with the families. We will support the victims of the Inneada incident until the end.
“The Minister of Environment and Urbanization is like a boomerang…”
The Minister of Environment and Urbanization is like a boomerang. You throw it and it comes back. Looking at the boomerang. He came out and made some unbelievable statements. President Erdogan promised to build 650,000 houses within a year. They built 76,000 houses in a year and a half. Now the minister says: “All the houses will be completed by the end of 2025.” Brother, which one should we believe?
The pen-holder who appointed you said, “The house will be built in a year, vote for me.” The people trusted his word, gave him authority, and he appointed you that authority, you say. “The house will be completed in three years.” It says three years. That means another year and a half in containers, tents, exposed to the cold, sun, dust, dirt…
“Let’s announce Ataley’s rational decision.”
I want to talk about an interesting topic today. The issue is legal genocide. Five people involved in the Gezi massacre are in prison. They lie in place of all of us. We are Gezi, brothers, we were all in Gezi. The trip is our honor. We will try people who were acquitted twice for a third time and keep them in prison despite the court’s verdict. Mr. Can Atalay was elected as a member of parliament and called to the stage for the swearing-in ceremony. They did not let him come. He was unanimously elected as a member of the Human Rights Commission, but the Human Rights Commission closed the door and said, “We will not release him.” So there are people who are resisting the country and the parliament.
The Constitutional Court found on October 25 that his rights had been violated. On November 8, the Supreme Court ignored the appeal. The Constitutional Court again ruled that his rights had been violated, but the Supreme Court remains resistant. He was removed from parliament on January 30. The Constitutional Court is expected to make rational decisions. “I call on the judges of the Constitutional Court, regardless of who appointed them, to make decisions according to their conscience and write down the reasons for their decisions.”
