President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdogan delivered a speech at the “Police Academy Graduation Ceremony” at the Ankara Gölbaz Police Academy. President Erdogan, who frequently emphasized “the law” in his speech and said that the powers of civil servants are limited by the constitution, said that one cannot serve the state beyond the law and that “social order cannot be maintained by evading the law. Civil servants are limited by the constitution and the law, and there are no exceptions to this.”
Erdogan claimed that the reforms he implemented as the AKP since 2002 had put an end to the mindset that positioned Turkey against the law and democracy, and said he considered this period to be “lost years”. While discussions of constitutional violations and illegality have continued in recent times, Erdogan maintained that the constitution had been suspended in the past, saying: “In the past, our country has suffered greatly from the supervision of bureaucrats who put their own country above the law and the law. By claiming national security, the rule of law was violated, the will of the nation was ignored, the constitution was suspended and our country’s freedoms were destroyed. “We consider this period to be Turkey’s lost years.”

By claiming national security, the rule of law has been violated, the will of the state has been ignored, the constitution has been suspended and the sphere of freedom in our country has been narrowed. We consider this period as Turkey’s lost years. With the reforms we have implemented since 2002, we have put an end to the notion of security as antithetical to law and democracy.
