Food Forward is a nonprofit that delivers fresh, surplus fruits and vegetables to people experiencing food insecurity.
Their mission is to fight hunger, reduce food waste, and create a future where everyone in their community has access to healthy produce.
The organization began in 2009 when a group of volunteers came together to rescue surplus citrus fruit from backyard waste in suburban Los Angeles and donate it to local food pantries.
Nearly 15 years later, Food Forward is now the nation’s largest independent, urban-based produce restoration and harvesting organization dedicated to bringing healthy, fresh produce to food- and nutrition-insecure communities.
Access to healthy, nutritious food is essential for food insecure people, and access to fresh fruits and vegetables through food recovery programs like Food Forward promotes a healthier environment, greater economic resilience, and more equitable communities.
Join Food Forward for a free community and family event celebrating Food Forward’s 15th anniversary of fighting hunger and reducing food waste.
Join us for a fun-filled celebration as we pick fruit for food-insecure communities and enjoy games, snacks and activities for all ages.
The event will be held at CSU Northridge Orange Grove, 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge, on Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Participation is free, but registration is required at foodforward.org.
