Food for 1,000 families
FTB volunteers plan to distribute a week’s worth of food to 1,000 families on Saturday.
“Our mission is to show hope to our communities through food, love through volunteering, and compassion by giving vulnerable people another day to fight,” said FTB Chairman Don Poe. “Everyone deserves to have regular, nutritious meals and that’s what Feed the Boro is all about.”
Anyone in Bulloch County who needs food is welcome to participate, but they are encouraged to get in line early.
Open the trunk and clean it
When residents arrive at the distribution area, their trunks must be open and empty. For SUVs, the back must also be accessible and empty. Volunteers cannot touch or move any items in the vehicle. If the vehicle is not empty, only place as many items as the space will allow. If there is no space for food, you will not receive the full amount of your distribution.
Cars pass slowly through the food stations without stopping, and it is essential to keep the trunk empty so as not to delay distribution for others in line.
High poverty rate in the block
Bulloch County’s poverty rate is 29%, meaning nearly one in three people could go to bed hungry tonight. Even with other local support, this is still a shocking statistic. Feed the Boro has been asked to continue distributing food that provides a family of four with two meals every day for a week, and they need the community’s help to do so.
Volunteer to help provide meals to those in need. If volunteer spots are filled, there are other ways you can help. FTB encourages you to donate food for individuals or families.
A donation of $15 can help a family of three, $25 can help a family of five, $100 can help 20, and so on.
Thanks to generous sponsors, it only costs about $5 per person to get a week’s worth of groceries, and Feed the Boro continues to raise funds to support this and other FTB projects.
An easy way to donate is to send a check payable to Feed the Boro, PO Box. 2736, Statesboro, 30459, or donate online at www.feedtheboro.com.
