Following the CHP victory, elections in the Kayseri-Pinarbasi district were called off due to opposition from the MHP. During this period, Kayseri Deputy Governor Ömer Tekeş served as mayor, according to a statement from the governor’s office.
The district voted again on June 2 to select a mayor.
Deputy chairman of the Republican People’s Party Group and deputy chairman of Mersin Ali Mahir Bashkar announced that CHP candidate Deniz Ya’an had won the constituency.
Basharil said:
“Our people at the polling stations gave the best response to the illegal decision to renew the elections in #KayseriPunarbasi that we won on March 31!
“Our Pinarbasi Mayor, Deniz Yağan, has been elected for a second time, demonstrating his fierce fight against injustice and showing that no force can surpass the will of the people. I wholeheartedly congratulate the Kayseri Provincial Organization and Deputy Ashkin Genç for their great contribution to this electoral victory.”
