People who spent the nine-day Eid al-Adha holiday in tourist destinations such as Thrace, Saros Bay and Canakkale caused traffic jams on the last day of the holiday. Vehicle density began to increase from Tekirdag to Istanbul this afternoon due to the return journey.
At the Çorlu intersection on the border between the Marmara Eleriş district and the city center, especially the Silivri district of Tekirdag in Istanbul, the queues of vehicles sometimes reached three kilometers. Police and gendarmerie took precautions at key road junctions to ensure the flow of traffic. Gendarmerie used drones to monitor traffic flow from the air.
The density will increase further in the coming hours, the official said, noting that drivers heading from Çanakkale to Istanbul can use the congestion-free TEM highway that passes through the Çorlu district and Tekirdag city center.
Crowds have also started in Afyonkarahisar
According to measurements, it was recorded that 5.877 million vehicles passed through Afyonkarahisar from June 12 to noon today. During the traffic jam in Afyonkarahisar, 61 traffic accidents occurred, of which 26 resulted in injuries and 35 in property damage. 62 people were injured in the accidents.
Density also increased at Sandikli intersection on the Afyonkarahisar-Antalya highway, which provides access to the provinces of Antalya, Denizli, Isparta and Burdur. The vehicle density, which began at noon yesterday, continued at noon today. Traffic police warned drivers to be careful at intersections, not to use safety lanes, wear seat belts and follow traffic rules.
