Gavin Newsom really screwed up this time. The Governor of California, along with his cronies in the legislature, arrogantly raised the minimum wage for fast food workers. Liberals proudly proclaimed that the new $20 an hour minimum would allow workers to live on par with their customers. They called it a livable wage.
For most Americans, working in fast food as a teenager was their first step into the labor market. It was a great job for second jobs, seniors, and people looking to get into the industry as a career. California’s new wage restrictions have permanently destroyed that toehold, leaving many with no way to enter the labor market.
California’s fast food industry is on the brink of collapse, with franchisees and local owners closing restaurants primarily due to rising wages eroding their ability to hire workers.
California restaurants are using robots to make burgers and other foods instead of humans, and it’s gotten so bad that it’s forced several local and national brands to close their doors, Fox Business reports.
In December, Southern California Pizza Co. announced it was laying off about 841 drivers statewide, a move that affects Pizza Hut locations in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside and Ventura counties.
