National archery team pleased with historic medal
The national team, which won the bronze medal in the classical bow team competition in the archery category at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, was pleased with the success achieved.
After the competition held at Les Invalides, bronze medal winners Mete Gazos, Uras Berkim Tumer and Muhammad Abdullah Yıldırmuş shared their thoughts with the national archery team coach Göktug Ergin.
After the medal ceremony, Coach Elgin and players spoke to the press.
Coach of the national archery team, Goktug Ergin, noted that the athletes’ performance was outstanding and said, “Behind this success there have been three years of hard work. Especially after Mete Gazos’ gold medal, winning a medal at the Olympics is no longer a cult. If we prepare well, I think we can also win more medals. “In the past three years. ” he said in a statement.
Evaluating today’s match, Elgin said:
“We thought we would win easily against Colombia today but it was a much harder game than we expected. We thought it would be difficult against India but it was easy. We lost to France by a few millimetres but we had special ambitions. “In the last World Championship against China, he was able to change his players’ mentality again and help them,” he said. “We used this a bit to motivate him and thank God we were successful.”
– Mete Gazos: “When I came here, the podium was my goal”
National Olympic champion shooter Mete Gazos began his speech by emphasizing that yesterday had been a long and tiring day.
Prior to today’s match, Gazos said he evaluated every match step by step, and said, “At the end of these steps is the podium, and we reached the podium. It was a great day. Our technical staff went above and beyond to give us an experience. It was everything we experienced here during training. There was even harder training, my heart rate was in the 180s, but it was okay. “It was fun, and I was in control of my mind and body. It proved that this medal wasn’t earned here, it was earned in training,” he said.
Emphasising their belief in the medal, Gazos said:
“When we came here, our goal was to be on the podium. I told everyone: ‘Olympics with history.’ Today there was no pressure from the stands or the crowd, but we were in the semi-finals of the Olympics, a match we lost by a few millimeters. When we came here, we said: ‘Don’t come, we’ll give you the bronze medal.’ If they had said that, of course we would have answered that we won with all our rights. But what I want to say is that we needed a little chance, but I hope that this luck was not on our side against France. It’s a great start not only for the archery department, but for the whole team. “We will break the broken medal record.”
Gazos also said he likes competing and having responsibility within a team, concluding by saying:
“In this team, everyone has a responsibility. I don’t take responsibility from anyone, nobody takes responsibility that belongs to me. This is a team job. Here, everyone is a stakeholder. In the mixed team I don’t have extra responsibility. ” “Elif Bela has her own responsibility, I have my own responsibility. If we both fulfill these responsibilities well in the mixed team, then the podium is no problem. For me, Abdullah, Uras and Elif, our match and the group are going very well.”
– Ulash Bakim Tumer: “We all did our part.”
Announcing that she will be competing in the Olympic Games for the first time and that it was a very exciting day for her, Ulash-Belkim Tumer continued:
“We were so excited. Mete tried to calm us down more. We all did our part. This is a team effort. We are a big team. We worked so hard for this. The whole team gave their lives so that we could wear it. It’s great to win a medal at my first Olympics. I hope that I can continue it individually as well.”
Another name on the team, Muhammad Abdullah Yıldırmuş, also attracted attention from the stands.
Yıldırmuş said he did not feel any pressure from the crowd, “But the archery stands are not that big, so it was my first time shooting arrows in such an environment. I don’t think I felt any pressure from the crowd. If it affected my performance against France, I can only say it was unlucky,” he said.
