Five attackers were neutralised in an operation following an attack on a synagogue and a church in Dagestan, Russia.
An operation has been organized in Russia’s Dagestan to arrest suspects allegedly responsible for simultaneous terrorist attacks on a synagogue, two churches and a police checkpoint. Following the attacks, which left nine people dead and 25 injured, an operation was launched to seal off entrances and exits to Dagestan and the buildings where the suspects were hiding were discovered in the cities of Makhachkala and Derbent.
Teams from the Russian State Anti-Terrorism Committee carried out an operation against the surrounding buildings, and although some of the suspects resisted by setting up barricades, they were killed on the spot in a clash.
The State Anti-Terrorism Committee provided information about suspects neutralized in so-called counter-terrorism operations, stating that “five militants were neutralized during counter-terrorism operations in the Republic of Dagestan.” It also stated that the active phase of operations in the region was completed.
Meanwhile, it was alleged that among the perpetrators of the attack in Dagestan were the children of Sergokalinsky Mayor Magomed Omarov. It was learned that Omarov was questioned after the incident, and a written statement was also issued by the United Russia party, one of the founders of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It was confirmed that the mayor was a member of the United Russia party, but “the Presidium of the United Russia Political Council has expelled Magomed Omarov from the party. The party said that “the decision was taken in accordance with the Charter of the United Russia Party and for acts of defamation of the party.”
