MCALLEN, Texas (VALLEY CENTRAL) — Temple Emanuel will host a food drive on Saturday to support the mission and work of the McAllen Boys & Girls Club during the summer.
Jonah Goldberg and Temple Emanuel said the food drive will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“As Jews, we feel a responsibility to do the work of repairing this broken world. Here in McAllen, we not only do the work ourselves, but we also “be a light” and continue to bring positivity to our community. We believe we have an opportunity to make a positive impact,” said Temple Emanuel President Annie Holland Miller. “Statistics show that approximately one in two children in the Rio Grande Valley suffers from food insecurity. Fortunately, we have access to federal funding to help feed children while they are in school.” Although government funding is available, we know there are families in need of support and meals at home as the school year draws to a close. Our goal is to build on the McAllen Boys & Girls Club’s strong efforts to address summer learning loss by helping families access food all summer long.”
This is the second food drive as part of the temple’s “Be the Light” campaign.
Members of all faith communities are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to Temple Emanuel, located at 4300 N. Chai (“C”) Street in McAllen, during Saturday’s drive.
