We are closely monitoring this matter and we respectfully submit to our citizens that they should act with restraint and make the statements of the authorities,” and “no other action should be taken.”

Kayseri Governor Gökmen Çiçek arrived in the area where the incident took place. He went to the balcony of a nearby apartment building to warn residents to remain calm. Five police officers were injured while trying to defuse the incident, Çiçek said, adding:

Statement from the Ministry
A statement released by the Ministry of Family and Social Services used the following statement:
“Regarding the news published in some media as ‘alleged harassment of a 7-year-old Syrian national in Kayseri’, we deemed it appropriate to issue the following statement: As soon as this case was reported to the police forces, our police forces processed the victim’s child, siblings and mother at the police station, after which the Provincial Directorate team immediately took action, ‘he was placed under state protection. A psychosocial support process for the child and his family was started by our expert team. As a ministry, we will intervene in the progress of the case and follow up closely to ensure that the perpetrators receive the heaviest punishment,” it said.
