Commenting after yesterday’s meeting with CHP Deputy Chairman Yalcin Karatepe, Minister of Finance and Treasury Mehmet Şimşek said: “We observed that the message regarding the meeting was sent to the public out of consideration for the stands and the fans.”
Minister Simsek’s remarks are as follows:
I received CHP Deputy Chairman Yalçin Karatepe, whom I accepted with the President’s permission, at the entrance to the building without following the rules of protocol and met him in my office. We frankly explained to them our views on all issues raised during the meeting, which lasted more than four hours, during which we listened to their opinions and suggestions. We took note of their proposals within the bounds of democratic decency and economic and financial realities. We also made a detailed presentation of our economic plan. However, afterwards, out of consideration for the stands and the fans, we saw that the message about the meeting was made public. We hope that this attitude and approach will not undermine the spirit of dialogue and normalization.
