Sparklefest, held at Round Lake Park on July 3, was the highlight of Eden Prairie’s Independence Day Hometown Celebration. The city canceled its Fourth of July festivities after storms were forecast, but announced on social media that it was exploring a new date for the fireworks later this year.
The fourth annual Sparklefest introduced new events, activities and food options. The celebration featured 13 food trucks, including popular newcomers Jilly Beans Ice Cream and Game Day Grub. Families enjoyed a variety of activities, including dance parties, crafts, lawn games, face painting and bouncy houses.
To conclude the evening, the event introduced a new addition – a drone show, making the event one of the few celebrations in the state to feature such a spectacle. The drone show provided a vibrant, colorful spectacle that was easy on the senses, without the loud noises typically associated with fireworks.
A kids foam party was also held, providing endless fun for the youngest attendees and adding to the excitement.
Two of the three Fourth of July Hometown Celebration events took place as scheduled. The festivities kicked off with “Strike Up the Band: A Military Salute” at Sterling Lake Amphitheater on July 2. Attendees enjoyed a free, outdoor concert featuring classic favorites by the Eden Prairie Community Band and Prairie Ramblers, with local veterans and active duty military members as guests of honor.
EPLN contributor Rick Olson captured on video the first-ever drone show at SparkleFest in Eden Prairie on Wednesday night.
