Beginning Friday, July 12th, the South Texas Food Bank will begin distributions for their senior citizens program in Slaughter Park on the second Friday of each month.
The distribution, which was previously held at San Jose Catholic Church, has been moved to Slaughter Park to avoid heavy traffic in the Meadows and to ensure the safety of staff and the community. Distribution will take place from 7 to 10 a.m.
The STFB Commodity Supplemental Food Program currently serves 14,000 seniors throughout South Texas. Each CSFP bag contains 28-30 pounds of various commodities and produce intended to supplement a senior’s diet. Items include cereal, evaporated milk, cheese, and a variety of other items.
STFB encourages anyone interested in enrolling in the CSFP program to come towards the end of the distribution. Staff will remain after the distribution to register eligible community members. The only documents required are proof of address, proof of family income, and ID. You must also be 60 years of age or older.
“We’re so grateful to the City of Laredo for allowing us to use the Slaughter Park parking lot for our CSFP distribution,” said Alma Bubel, CEO of the South Texas Food Bank. “This is one of our largest programs and it allows us to maximize the safety of our staff and neighbors while helping as many people as possible.”
