Harun Akaroz, the son of artist Safiye Soyman, who has been battling MS (multiple sclerosis) for 24 years, fell ill the night before and was taken to hospital.
Akkaroz, who had been suffering from symptoms related to respiratory failure, died in hospital yesterday. Soyman, who was in Bodrum, came to the village of Yesilbashköy upon hearing of Akkaroz’s death and spent the summers there for about three years as Akkaroz recovered from his illness.
Safiye Soyman was accompanied by Fayek Ozturk and his daughter Umran Akaroz.
Yesilbashköy’s mayor, Ali Koçel, and many of his loved ones visited Safiye Soyman’s home to offer their condolences.
“How can I bear this? We were video chatting 15 times a day. He was waiting for me, his son. I came back after 45 days of filming and my mother was waiting,” Soiman said in tears in front of his house. How can I bear this? May God give me patience. His brother made him live here for six years so that God would not let anyone see his child’s pain. “I wish I could breathe. How can I bear this?” he cried. “We are done for. My son has become an angel. I can’t bear this,” he said.
Harun Akaroz’s body was treated at Arasun Provincial Hospital before being sent to the Bodrum district of Muğla. It was learned that the body will be buried this afternoon in the cemetery in the town of Gundudu.
All were suddenly rejected.
Safiye Soyman’s son, Harun Akaroz, had been living a healthy life until around 1999, when he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), a muscle and nerve disease, which changed his life forever.
His mother, Soyman, began caring for Acaloz as his illness progressed rapidly and he became bedridden like a baby.
The famous singer, who has devoted all his efforts to his children, said in an interview that he is preparing a good future for his son, saying, “Harun’s future is guaranteed.”
In an interview with Anadolu Agency a few years ago, Safiye Soyman described the progression of her son’s illness:
“Then my son said, ‘Mom, my legs are tingling.’ Then he started to get numb. We went to the doctor, but they said, ‘There’s nothing,’ and I understood. “‘Son, go to the eye doctor. They couldn’t find anything there either. I said, ‘Let’s get an MRI.’ The MRI showed the disease.”
“I asked the doctors, ‘Is this a fatal disease?’ ‘It’s not cancer. It’s not a tumor,’ and I said, ‘Thank God.’
“My son graduated from the Faculty of Tourism. He got sick but we didn’t lock him in the house. He also studied International Business Management abroad and was about to graduate. He couldn’t get his second diploma yet because of a serious illness but he was a multi-talented kid.”
“You have to smile all the time”
Safiye Soiman said that she had been through a very difficult time both as a mother and as an artist, adding:
“I go on stage, I have to laugh, I sing, I have to laugh, and I’m also a mother. I have never told anyone what I went through. I have to give morale to everyone. Especially my son, I never wanted him to. It’s inexplicable to see me upset. My son was just like me, he was hilarious. ” “I have never neglected my son’s social life. I have no choice but to laugh out loud, but this is the real Safiye Soiman. “
“We have one foot in Istanbul and the other in Bodrum. The air and oxygen in Bodrum was very good for my son. We haven’t even been to the doctor for the last three years. I try not to take my son to closed places. I try to do that. I do everything I can not to take anything away from my son. All my earnings are working for my son. May everything be sacrificed for my son.”
“My son is fine too.”
Noting that technology has made great advances and even a cure for cancer is beginning to be discovered, Safiye Soiman said, “My son is OK. They are beginning to discover cures for MS disease. I am researching whatever comes out there. Don’t laugh at me, the world, there is always hope, I will never give up hope,” he said.
Stating that her son lives in Bodrum and will never take her away from her beautiful surroundings and that she is constantly traveling between Ankara, Istanbul and Bodrum for her work, the artist said: “My son is my world. If something were to happen to my son, I would not be able to live.” he said.
Soiman added that what she misses most is her son calling her “mom,” something she knew would happen someday.
Call 30 times a day
Safiye Soiman spoke about her son Harun during a guest appearance on the show.
“My assistant Bekir took my son to Burdur. There was a movement in Harun. We quickly built a house for my son so that he would be hot in the summer. The weather in Burdur has improved. For 24 years, I have only my work and my son. “We are always together. When I have work, I call him 30 times a day.”
Going to America with my son!
Safiye Soiman shared a photo on her social media account from her trip to the US with her son Harun many years ago, and while reminiscing the past, Soiman wrote a note underneath the post which read:
“Before I got sick, I went to a concert in Dallas, Texas, USA with my son Harun and took a commemorative photo.”
