News of the drowning reached Turkey from across the country after Abdullah Bugdei (11) went missing from the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa and his family reported the incident to the Gendarmerie.
During a search by the gendarmerie, Bugdai’s clothes were found near a water pond. The child’s body was found in the pond, which had been drained by machinery. Bugdai’s body was taken to the morgue of the Siverek Provincial Hospital for an autopsy.
Adiyaman
Mustafa Dar (14) went missing a short time later after entering a canal to cool off in Tashkuyu village, Samsat district.
Rescue and medical teams were dispatched to the area after relatives alerted them and the child was pulled from the water by residents and handed over to the medical team.
Mustafa Dar was rushed to Samsat Provincial Hospital by ambulance but despite intervention, his life could not be saved. His body was taken to the Adiyaman Training and Research Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Corum
Veis Sariklikli (20) was walking with a friend to a pond near the village of Yevci in the Boğazkale district of Çorum when he went into the water to cool off.
After a while, Sarikli’s friends realised he was in danger of drowning and called 112 for help.
Following the report, military police, AFAD and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
A search and rescue team from the AFAD Provincial Directorate and a team of divers pulled the young man’s lifeless body from the water. Sarikli’s body has been sent to the Ankara Forensic Institute for an autopsy.
Salim Küçüksakar, the head of the village of Yevci, said that during the incident, Sarikli called out to his friend who was in the water: “I’m drowning, help me,” and that he went to get help because his friend could not swim, and when he returned, he could not find his friend.
Bursa
13-year-old Halil El Hussein, who came to Iznik district from Yenisehir to have a picnic with his family in Iznik, entered the pond where DSI was drawing water for swimming. While swimming in the pond, which was about six meters deep, Hussein suddenly disappeared.
Hussein’s family were worried about not being able to see their children, so they called police and military police, who were then dispatched to the scene.
The Iznik Police and Gendarmerie launched a search operation. As a result of the work of the Mudanya Marine Police’s diving team, the body of Khalil El Hussein was pulled from the water. The unfortunate child’s body was taken to the morgue of Iznik Provincial Hospital. Khalil Al Hussein’s family, who were present at the scene, suffered a nervous breakdown. A medical team intervened with the family. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Kocaeli
A search was carried out with the participation of lifeguards from the Kocaeli Drowning Prevention Center (KOSKEM), gendarmes, maritime police and coast guard boats and helicopters, and led to the recovery of Muharrem Elitash, 24, who went missing after swimming with friends at the Sayrek Mahallesi site in the Kandila district the previous day.
A Coast Guard team arrived at Elitas’ body, which was pulled from the water and taken to the morgue at Kandula Provincial Hospital.
Istanbul
Kerem Imre, 16, and Yusuf Dzhamalov, 17, drowned while swimming at Sile Sofrali Beach. It has been learned that Kerem Imre’s 12-year-old brother, who was rescued from near drowning, is continuing to be treated in intensive care.
“This is a sandy beach, and even the sandy beach is a swamp. Every day, three or four people who go there die. I saved my wife, but I couldn’t save my son,” said Aras Dzhamalov, the father of the deceased Dzhamalov. “It’s the Black Sea, so there are waves.”
Duzce
The body of 16-year-old Ibrahim K., who went missing in the sea in Düzce’s Akçakoca district, has been found.
The search for Ibrahim K was underway by water, air and land after he was lost in the sea at Chayaz Beach, where he was visiting during his Eid al-Adha holidays.
In addition to the teams of boats, boats, helicopters and drones belonging to the Coast Guard, teams from AFAD, UMKE, the Gendarmerie Underwater Search and Rescue Team (SAK) and the Gendarmerie Special Security Unit (JÖAK) from Sakarya, Ankara and Zonguldak operated in the water and on the coastline.
The young man’s family remained in the coastal area and followed efforts to find their child.
After more than 30 hours of work on the shoreline, Ibrahim K’s body was found by divers approximately 100 metres from where he went missing.
The body was taken to the shore and then to the morgue at the Duzce University Faculty of Medicine Training, Research and Practice Hospital.
