Roanoke Blacksburg Regional Airport is offering travel tips from its holiday travel director to help passengers get through the busiest travel season of the year.
ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is offering travel tips from its Holiday Travel Department to help passengers get through the busiest travel season of the year.
The airport recommends planning to arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes or two hours before your scheduled departure to allow enough time for parking, checking baggage, and going through security. If you’re traveling on the first flight in the morning, the airport encourages passengers to allow extra time to wait in line, as checkpoints will be busier.
If you plan to travel with a car seat, stroller, or pet carrier, we recommend contacting your airline before your flight to make sure they will allow you to bring it on the plane. At the airport, you will need to remove your child from the stroller or car seat before going through screening.
Danville Regional Airport renovates terminal for first time since 1961
According to the airport, the main long-term and east short-term parking lots often fill up around holidays, so passengers usually find the most availability in the west short-term parking lot, which is the second entrance on the left after the first short-term lot and the front terminal. Another option is the overflow lot across Aviation Dr. from the terminal.
If you arrive at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport, please have a family member or friend wait in the free cell phone lot until your luggage is collected and call you. Pickup parking is also available in one of the two short-term lots closest to the terminal. Your first 15 minutes in the lot are free, and up to 30 minutes are just $1. The airport is reminding drivers not to wait at the curb so everyone can find a space ahead when passengers are ready.
Check the airport’s website for airport tips before your holiday trip.
