Mower County 4-H, Riverland Community College, Nexus Cooperative and Austin Community Education have partnered to host the third annual Agriculture and Food Science Exploration (AFSE) Day on Wednesday, July 10th.
This program is aimed at youth in grades 6-9 and is an opportunity for anyone interested in science, biology, chemistry, engineering, computers, agriculture, mathematics and food science. If your youth loves spending time outdoors, having fun and learning new things, this is the perfect event for them.
During the day, youth learn about agricultural, animal and food sciences by taking fascinating tours, participating in hands-on learning labs and developing leadership skills.
Tours/activities include corn/soybean/drone activities with Nexus Cooperative, a Read’s Brown Swiss Dairy farm, a tour of the Absolute Energy ethanol plant while learning about biofuels, and food science activities with Hormel Foods.
At each location, youth will participate in hands-on activities designed to apply what they have learned. Participants will also learn about leadership alongside state 4-H ambassadors.
To register for the event, visit https://z.umn.edu/AgandFoodExplorationDay by June 26. Cost is $12 per participant and includes a meal and a t-shirt.
