Center Street Food Pantry Wins Greater Boston Food Bank Grant
Center Street Food Pantry, a local food assistance agency in Newton, announced it has received a Community Investment Grant from the Greater Boston Food Bank. The $9,525 grant will enable CSFP to purchase a new refrigerator, making an immediate impact in Center Street’s “No Child Hungry This Summer” campaign.
Through this campaign, Center Street will provide customers with children with an extra bag of fresh foods suitable for their child’s lunch every time they visit the pantry. The extra bag will include milk, sandwich rolls, cheese, deli meats and fruit.
Food insecurity in the area remains high and continues to grow, and after a steep increase during the pandemic, Center Street is feeding 20% more people this year than last. The Center Street Food Pantry is available to residents of Brookline, Needham, Newton, Waltham, Watertown and Wellesley, and serves an average of 1,100 households and more than 4,000 people each month.
