The cheering crowds and festive spirit of Boston’s Pride Parade may be over, but Pride Month continues throughout June, giving us a week to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community.
To celebrate, there are lots of events taking place across the city, lots of merchandise on sale, and many businesses donating a portion of their sales to LGBTQ+ support organizations. Here are some great options:
Wear Pride
Beyond all the rainbow merch, wearing something that actually contributes to a cause is the gold standard. One strong local example: Reebok’s new Unity by Reebok (reebok.com/c/600000020/collection-pride) is a collection of subtly multicolored sneakers, prism-embellished hoodies, and cropped T-shirts. Plus, with every purchase, Reebok will donate $10,000 to the Boston Alliance of LGBTQ+ Youth.
Calvin Klein’s 2024 “This is Love” Pride Collection (calvinklein.us/en/pride) is fun and joyful (the ad campaign is star-studded, from Jeremy Pope and Cara Delevingne to Stella Maxwell) and features stylish underwear and bras, statement tees and tank tops for men and women, all featuring the brand’s rainbow-colored logo. Plus, the brand’s North American CK stores are hosting a cashier-opening sale through July 6, with all proceeds going to ILGA World (ilga.org). Already this year, Calvin Klein has donated $240,000 to ILGA World and the Transgender Law Center.
Sing with pride
Cosmetics phenom Urban Decay (urbandecay.com) has long been a favorite of beauty buffs, but this year it’s branching out into the music world with the release of its Pride-celebrating vinyl record, “Loud + Proud” (urbandecay.com). Buy one for $75 and $50 will be donated to the Stonewall Community Foundation (stonewallfoundation.org). Then sit back and relax to the record, which features tunes from Bree Runway, Troye Sivan, SOPHIE, Chrissy Klapekka, Slater, and more.
Eat with pride
Next time you’re in a U.S. IKEA store, keep an eye out for the new rainbow cake being sold in the restaurants: just $3.99 a slice, with $100,000 in proceeds going to True Colors United (truecolorsunited.org).
Drink with pride
Naturally, cocktails are plentiful during this festive month. Bambara Kitchen & Bar (bambara-cambridge.com) has created a special Don’t Rain on My Parade for Pride Month, a cocktail made with vodka, elderflower liqueur, fresh lemon and hibiscus ginger syrup, finished with prosecco and an orchid. Grab one before the end of the month and sip it knowing that $1 from every sale will go to the Boston LGBTQ+ Youth Alliance (bagly.org).
And be sure to join us for the Pride Bar Crawl in Boston on the afternoon and evening of June 22 (tickets available at eventbrite.com/e/2024-pride-bar-crawl-boston-ma-lgbtq-bar-event-bar-crawl-live-tickets-852677560537 ). The event starts at 3pm at Wild Rover (wildroverboston.com) and runs until 10pm.
Party with pride
If you missed Boston’s Pride Parade or are looking to get in the festive spirit, mark your calendar for North Shore Pride’s Pride Festival (northshorepride.org/event/north-shore-prides-pride-festival) in Salem on June 22 from noon to 2 pm. The parade kicks off in Shetland Park and ends at Salem Common with plenty of revelry.
Shining with pride
Do you really need a reason to wear more shiny David Yurman jewelry? The company has once again teamed up with The Trevor Project (thetrevorproject.org), which focuses on suicide prevention in the LGBTQ+ community, to create a gem-filled collection (davidyurman.com/charity/pride.html) that includes rainbow necklace tags, pavé bead bracelets and curb chain bracelets. From now until the end of the year, 20% of purchases will be donated to the life-saving nonprofit.
