Defense Minister Yasar Güler, along with Turkish armed forces commanders, celebrated with Turkish soldiers at the 2nd Border Brigade Headquarters in Hakkari Cukurca.
Minister Yasar Güler, who spoke with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan by phone, said that he had observed our country’s Mehmedcik’s dedicated service on the ground.

Minister Güler offered Eid prayers with Chief of Staff Metin Gülak, Navy Commander Ercument Tatılıoğlu, Army Commander Selçuk Bayraktarol, and Air Force Commander Ciya Cemal Kadıoğlu at the 2nd Border Brigade Headquarters in Hakkari Çukurca, and then congratulated Mehmetçik. Minister Güler, tensions, crises, conflicts and wars are occurring all over the world. Emphasizing the need for the Turkish Armed Forces to become an effective and deterrent force ready to act at any time and to strengthen this force, the Turkish Ministry of Defense stated, “In this sensitive period when uncertainties and threats have become asymmetric and unpredictable, we, as the heads of national defense, are working day and night for the security and peace of our beloved people. We will perform our duties with great determination and resolve. Within the framework of the multifaceted defense and security policy we have decided, our glorious army has carried out the most powerful and effective operations since the War of Independence, especially in the fight against domestic and cross-border terrorism, the success of which clearly demonstrates the operational capabilities and might of our national army. We have targeted terrorist elements in Iraq and northern Syria with a strategy to eliminate the terrorist threat at its source and shattered terrorist corridors.
“If we’re not there now,” he said, “the attacks on our borders will continue as they have in the past and we will pay a much greater price at home.”

Minister Güler noted that an environment of security and peace has been established in Hakkari, saying, “The beautiful plateaus of the city welcome local and foreign tourists. You are our most important guarantors,” he said, adding: “In parallel with our duties, we will uncompromisingly defend our rights and interests in our blue-sky homeland, which is the border and sacred homeland and a source of pride for our country.”
“We need to be militarily strong.”
Minister Güler emphasized that Turkey’s geopolitical position further increases its importance in the region and the world, but also brings risks and threats, and said, “Being in such an important geography requires us to defend our country’s rights and interests in all fields.” And to contribute to world peace and stability, we must first become militarily strong, and thankfully, in this delicate security environment, Turkey has become an indispensable actor in security structures and negotiating forums by increasing its effectiveness in the international community. As the Turkish Armed Forces, we need to be well aware of our capabilities, which play a key role in carrying out our missions. Accomplishing these extensive missions simultaneously with great harmony, order and success reinforces that, with this conviction and motivation, we are firmly on our way to the goal of the “Turkish Century” in this historical process in which we begin the second century of the Republic. We will continue to eliminate all kinds of threats and dangers to our survival, within the framework of the defense and security strategy we have decided, and strengthen Turkey’s position as a great power that brings security and stability to the region and the world. “We will take new steps with determination to develop bilateral military relations and defense industrial cooperation with our friends and allies,” he said.
