Erdogan was welcomed at Andrews Air Force Base by Turkish Grand National Assembly Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, Turkey’s ambassador to Washington Sedat Önal, Defense Industry President Halık Gölgün and other officials.
President Erdogan and First Lady Emine Erdogan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of Defense Yaşar Güler, MİT President İbrahim Kalın, Presidential Private Secretary Hasan Doğan, Presidential Chief of Staff for Foreign Policy and Security, Ambassador Akif Çatay Kılıc, Vice President for Communications Çatay Özdemir and AK Party Vice President Cigdem Karaaslan also visited Washington.
President Erdogan, who is attending the NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government within the framework of the Summit, will today take part in events marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of NATO.
President Erdogan is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with some heads of state and government.
4. Important Topics
There are four key issues on President Erdogan’s agenda at the summit.
Chief among these is the Israeli attack on Gaza… President Erdogan will call on member states to play a greater role in preventing genocide and ensuring a lasting peace.
The search for a long-running ceasefire will also be on the agenda. Regarding ongoing ceasefire talks in Doha, the Qatari capital, the president said, “Some positive steps have been taken during the talks, envisaging a permanent ceasefire. Now they are calling the ceasefire ‘moment by moment.’ In other words, accurate news should come from there, moment by moment.” He used the following expression:
Developments in the Middle East, the Russia-Ukraine war and security in the Black Sea will also be on Erdogan’s agenda.
The most important topic on the agenda for the meeting of heads of state and government is the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Ukraine’s greatest expectation from NATO is to receive a satisfactory message about its membership and military support against Russia.
