The decision to appoint administrators following the operation in the city of Hakkari has sparked a backlash, with political parties reacting on their social media accounts and describing the decision as illegal.
Mahmut Tanar, Deputy Mayor of CHP Şanlıurfa, said: “Hakkari Co-Mayor Flo has an ongoing lawsuit. The case was scheduled to be heard on June 5, 2024. This decision is intended to have an impact on the court panel and the trial.”
Reacting to the decision, Tanar said: “They may ask, Mehmet Südük Koşuk had no obstacles to take part in the elections. He became a candidate with the approval of the YSK. What has changed since then?” he continued.
Following this decision, the political parties and party names released the following statements on their social media accounts:

Labor Party:
“When the one-man government failed to persist in its stance of usurping Van’s will by illegally using state resources it held in the city it lost at the ballot box, it resorted to appointing a city trustee for Hakkari. First, it gained the power to govern alone, and then it gained the status of the first party.” The one-man, one-party trustee decision is an attack not only on the will of the people of Hakkari, but on the will of the entire Turkish nation. In the name of “normalization” and “detente” it is a lawless act of police siege and usurpation of the will of the Hakkari and Kurdish people. “The government, which has changed the constitution so many times, is reckless. Despite all this, it is enough to ask for support for the ‘new constitution’. The council members appointed by the AKP government in Hakkari, which has implemented practices that compete with those of the coup leaders, are invalid in the eyes of the people.”
Left:
“The appointment of trustees to the city of Hakkari is unacceptable. We stand in solidarity against this effort, which even ignores the Kurdish people’s right to vote and be elected.”

CHP says:
The detention of Hakkari Co-Mayor Mehmet Suduk Nakit and the subsequent decision by the Ministry of Interior to suspend him and appoint an administrator in his place are purely political decisions and far from being of a legal nature.
Remember, the presumption of innocence is emphasized…

“The arrest of Hakkari Municipality co-mayor Mehmet Suduk Koşuk and the decision by the Ministry of Interior to dismiss him and appoint a receiver in his place is a purely political decision, far from being of a legal nature. Let’s stop it. Forget that Article 38 of the Constitution, where the presumption of innocence is emphasized, provides that “no one shall be considered guilty until his guilt is proven.” This decision is aimed at influencing the courts, and you say that “as a result, there will be no obstacles to the election of the mayoral candidate.” Once the election is over and the mayor is seated, you stand up and decide to dismiss the mayor by listing past events that are the subject of the trial. It is not over yet, and there is no guilty verdict yet. The purpose is clear – to continue the receivership system from where it was left off… I doubt they will ask if Mehmet Suduk Stream had no obstacles to participate in the elections. He became a candidate with the approval of the YSK. What has changed since then? “
DEM Co-chairman Tancer Bakilan:
“We call on all democratic, revolutionary and peace-loving people, especially our people, to support the people of Hakkari and to give a democratic response to this usurpation of their will. He has resorted to illegal detention against a legitimate and democratic representative of the people. The detention of our Hakkari co-mayor is a dark and dirty illegal act. We reject this coup, trusteeship and sworn anti-Kurdish mentality. We will not impose our will on anyone. We say enough is enough. We express that the illegal acts that undermine the future of Turkish democracy should be abandoned immediately. “We call on all democratic, revolutionary and peace-loving people, especially our people, to support the people of Hakkari and to give a democratic response to this usurpation of their will.”
DEM Co-chair Turei Hatimochari:
“The government, which was defeated by the will of the people at the ballot box, is trying to usurp it again. We will never succumb to the mindset of the trustees, who have tried to usurp our municipality with police force and detained co-mayor Mehmet Suduk Nakit. This attack is not only against the will of the people of Hakkari, but also against the will of all the people of Türkiye. “We call on all who support democracy to stand up against the mindset of the trustees.”
