GÜLDEN Çoktan – Illegal streaming applications downloaded to watch movies, TV series and matches are also used for fraud. Banking applications are accessed through spyware within the application, especially at night.
He couldn’t handle the phone.
Fatih Komert, who fell victim to this scheme, explained what happened when she downloaded a movie-watching application onto her phone and then woke up to it ringing while she was sleeping.
“Someone was talking to a bank employee where I had an account. He introduced himself as me. I wanted to hang up, but there was nothing I could do. A loan of 148,000TL was taken out in my name. I took out the SIM card, put it in another phone and called the bank. The bank closed my account. I filed a criminal complaint. “I borrowed the money and paid off the loan.”

Mehmet Yılmaz, who said he received a 200,000 TL loan in his name two days after downloading an application to watch TV series, said, “The bank says the money was transferred to five different accounts. I filed a criminal complaint. They said that depending on the prosecutor’s decision, the payment may be stopped. That’s why I’m paying the loan,” he said. Uğur Kayal, who was defrauded in the same way, said he “received a 350,000 TL loan at 22:30 at night,” but explained that a 344,000 TL loan was used from another victim’s account.
“Banks are also to blame”
Ethical Hacker Tamer Şahin: “When you search to watch a TV series or a movie, many sites appear without limit. People are clicking on all these sites. Fraudsters have discovered this. It is possible to make a deal with a specific hacker and buy malicious software that can imitate the infrastructure of banks in each country. There is malware on the market that covers all banks in Turkey. They buy these and can infect people’s mobile phones and withdraw money. Banks have a big responsibility here. “Bank fraud departments have to block loan applications and withdrawal transactions that are made at abnormal times, or if not, they have to hold the transaction and call the customer.”
Confidential information
Forensic Intelligence Specialist Prof. Dr. Ali Murat Kırık: “When users download such applications, they are asked for more permissions than usual. Spyware can use these permissions to access sensitive information, such as keyboard input. Cyber attackers can also access bank accounts and empty them. To detect spyware, it is important to regularly scan your device with security software or an antivirus program.”
