The fire, which broke out in an agricultural area of Aydın’s Didim district, spread due to winds but was contained after extensive efforts, but initial investigations showed that a poultry farm and some hay were damaged in the fire. Meanwhile, the plane that intervened in the fire made a hard landing on the lake at around 16:30. Agriculture Minister Ibrahim Yumakli reported that the three staff members on board were rescued and are in good health.
The fire broke out at around 13:20 in Akyenikoy district of Didim district. According to information received, the fire broke out in agricultural land of unknown origin. Fire was seen spreading in the area along with strong winds and fire and forestry brigades were dispatched to the area. After air and ground intervention, the fire was brought under control through intensive efforts of the teams. Cooling efforts are continuing in the area.
Initial investigation results indicate a chicken farm and some hay were damaged in the fire.
The plane made a hard landing
The plane belonging to the Muğla Forestry Agency, which intervened in a forest fire in Makis, Didim District, Aydın Province, made a hard landing on Lake Bafa at around 16:30. After receiving a call, the team rescued the crew.
Agriculture Minister Ibrahim Yumaklu issued the following statement about the crashed plane:
A Turkish Aviation Association CL-215 firefighting aircraft used by the Forestry Directorate while engaged in forest fire suppression activities in Didim, Aydın Province, crashed into Lake Bafa for unknown reasons.
Three Company employees working on the plane were rescued and are in good health.
We wish our dedicated crew a speedy recovery and would like to thank the Forest Service and all the support agencies and their staff who are battling the bushfires.
Statement from the Department of Transport and Infrastructure
A written statement from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure said: “At 16:27 today, our Rescue Coordination Centre received a distress call from a firefighting aircraft with tail number TC-TVK, belonging to the Turkish Aviation Association, via our satellite system. Investigations showed that the plane crashed into Lake Bafa during its intervention in a forest fire in Aydın. An SAR operation was urgently launched and air forces and coast guard aviation units from Izmir and Dalaman were dispatched to the area. The plane landed hard nose-first on the lake, but it was learnt that the three crew members were on board and were in good health. “An air force reconnaissance aircraft continues to operate over the lake.”
Governor Akubiik visits the injured
A plane responding to the Didim wildfire crashed, and the three injured crew members were taken by ambulance to Milas Provincial Hospital. Muğla Provincial Governor Idris Akbiyuk, Muğla Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Aras and administrative leaders visited the injured at the hospital and offered their best wishes. They announced that the injured are receiving treatment and are in good health.
Fires in Denizli move away from residential areas
The forest fire, which started on the Muğla border, spread to Denizli, threatening two districts of Kale district, far from residential areas. The fire, which required air and ground intervention, burned down a cemetery and killed many wild animals.
Wildfires in Milas
The fire broke out in a forest in the Milas Kistral district of Muğla at around 14:00. Someone who saw smoke rising from the vicinity called the emergency center 112. Upon being informed, a number of teams were dispatched to the area. The teams continue to intervene in the fire from the air and land.
Filmed under supervision
The fire, which broke out in a forest in the Kushtral area of Milas district of Mugla, was put out in about two hours thanks to an aerial intervention by four planes and four helicopters, and a ground intervention by 35 water tankers and 207 personnel. Teams have begun cooling operations in the area. A statement from the Governor of Mugla said, “The forest fire that broke out between the Milas Beyciler and Kusultu districts has been put out thanks to swift and effective intervention, and cooling efforts have been launched. We thank all the teams who intervened selflessly and cooperated in our support to protect our green homeland.”
