A letter written by Ebsereme Gülen, nephew of FETO leader Fethullah Gülen, to Fethullah Gülen in 2020 has come to light. Ebsereme Gülen, who gave the letter to fugitive FETO member Ahmet Donmez showing the inside of FETO, told his uncle Fethullah Gülen about the abuse she suffered, ranging from intra-organizational violence to sexual harassment. In response to Fethullah Gülen’s letter, Ebsereme Gülen said, “What should I do, my child, they deceived me too. I can’t do anything!” He said.
The FETO account, which had remained silent following Ebseleme Gülen’s revelations and confessions, began publishing videos against Ebseleme Gülen after the letter was revealed. Adem Yavuz Arslan, a fugitive FETO member, filmed the videos targeting Ebseleme Gülen.
“Don’t give them a room and let them waste away. Make them sleep under the stairs,” Ebseleme Gülen said in the letter, adding that “the way you behaved, Mozkan, Nazi and Dr. Ali, Cevdet was worse.”
Ebseleme Gülen, who wrote that she had attempted suicide twice, said in the letter that “nothing I experienced in the process, including sexual harassment, was to blame.” Filali Taraf writer Onder Aytak also shared the letter with the comment, “It’s impossible not to go crazy.”
The letter reads as follows:
“Dear teacher,
I was born in Rafia’s house. My mother used to finish work at 2 or 3 am because she had to look after the guests who came by bus and my sick grandmother. When the guests left the house, if there was any food left, she would wait on the stairs and eat it.
It wasn’t until I was 18 that I started seeing my father. Nothing happened along the way, not even sexual harassment. I was kicked out. I was pushed out. One day you openly said at FEM: “Give them a room and don’t waste the room, let them sleep under the stairs.” Because you behaved like that, Mezcan, Naci, Dr. Ali and Cevdet did even worse. At Gündüzarp University, where you were expelled, nothing happened to me. Your uncle… used to beat your brother, they used to beat him for his pleasure, so that he could come and beat you too. They beat me because I was drawing pictures. They beat me because I didn’t sleep. Then they beat me because they asked me why I slept during class. The Don players ran in front of the whole school on a winter day in the schoolyard. They beat me because I was playing basketball, to make an example of me. Despite everything, when I was not very successful, they attacked me and considered me a rival. They lost a lot to me, but I hope you do your best.
I have tried to commit suicide twice but did not die. I drowned once when I saved 3 friends. I woke up lying on the sand in the water and swam out. I have been praying to God for 10 years asking why I will not die. Well done. But despite all this trauma, the words you whispered in my ear do not let me sleep. I am so angry at you because you knew about it and did not prevent it. I cannot sleep. It drives me crazy that you do not make a clear decision to heal when people are suffering.
