According to information released by Emra Erdinci, who is following the case in the United States, Cihantimur is being held at the Manson Youth Facility under the “federal crime” category at level 4 security (maximum 5).
Cihantimur’s lawyer, who appeared before a judge on June 18 on charges of “negligent homicide and injury” in relation to the accident in question, informed the court that he wanted his client’s location changed because he was not satisfied with the conditions at the correctional facility where he was being kept.
Judge Donald Cavell decided to continue Cihantimur’s detention but did not say whether he would be sent to another correctional facility.
The defendant’s lawyer also stated that his client would resist Turkey’s extradition request because “as a U.S. citizen, he should remain in the U.S. and continue his education.”
At the first hearing at the John Joseph Mauchly Court in Boston, US, the judge decided to hear today the case of Cihantimur, who was abducted to the US by his mother, Eylem Tok, after the accident.
Ayyrum Tok’s trial has been postponed to June 27th.
It was decided that Ayrum Tok’s detention would continue.
As they continue to move around the US, mother and son have finally revealed the contract they signed when renting a property in Boston.
Interpol’s Directorate General of Security and security officers from the U.S. Embassy in Turkey located the fugitive mother and child. First, information on the suspects was forwarded to Interpol officials, who then forwarded it to the Boston Police Department.
He was arrested following a US police investigation and $5,000 was recorded after a search of his home.
The mother and son appeared in Boston federal court, where Cihantimur was arrested on charges of “involuntary manslaughter and assault” and his mother, Eylem Tok, on charges of “protecting a perpetrator.”
According to NTV USA correspondent Huseyin Günay, at the first hearing in Boston for Cihan Timur and Tok, who were detained following a Turkish extradition request, it was decided to continue detaining Eylem Tok.
The next hearing has been postponed to Tuesday, June 27, at 16:00 Turkish time to allow both parties to prepare detailed arguments and defence.
