According to the latest assessment made by the Meteorological Directorate, at noon, localized showers and thunderstorms will occur east of Kastamonu, south of Sinop, in the eastern Mediterranean Troslar region, north and west of eastern Erzurum. Thunderstorms are expected in the inland areas of Erzincan, Bayburt and Rize.
Temperatures across the country are expected to be between 8 and 12 degrees above the seasonal average.
Winds are expected to be mostly from the north, at moderate strength.
A warning from Professor Dr. Orhan Shen
“It makes no sense to walk around in the sun in this heat. We are standing in the sun for the broadcast, but people with chronic diseases, the elderly, children should walk,” Turkish meteorology consultant professor Dr. Orhan Şen said in a live broadcast statement. “Don’t go out without wearing a hat or glasses, especially in this weather. It’s very dangerous. Heat stroke can lead to death. It’s the brain,” he said.
“The weather is very hot. In Istanbul, the temperature is 37-38 degrees in the sun, but if you measure it in the shade, it’s 33 degrees. In the east and south of Marmara, the temperature is over 35 degrees,” said Shen. People who live here should be careful if the temperature exceeds 35 degrees, but in Marmara, the temperature does not exceed 35 degrees. 35 degrees, today and tomorrow, people who live here in the Aegean, Mediterranean and southeastern Anatolia should be careful. “If this temperature rises by another 6-7 degrees, my brain will boil,” he said.
“Temperature records will be broken.”
“It was a bit early to get this hot at the beginning of June. This indicates that there will be very extreme temperatures and heat waves in the coming July and August. We need to be very careful. Turkey will continue to have these,” said Shen. Extreme temperatures are also a meteorological disaster. Evaporative losses have also increased this year, and what we have to do is thirst. We predict that the highest temperature in Istanbul this year will be 42 to 43 degrees, which will be the most serious problem. We need to wear white clothes and take plenty of water in the scorching heat, as we may have forest fires,” he said.
Adana thermometer reads 43
Extreme heat, which has been continuing for days, continues to have a negative impact on life in Adana Çukurova. Thermometers in the city are showing 43 degrees, but experts do not recommend going outside at noon unless necessary. Battered by the heat, Adana residents are looking for different ways to cool down.
Some people went to parks to swim in the shade, while others swam in the city’s irrigation channels, despite the risk of drowning. Some children swimming in a channel in the center of the Yredir district ignored warnings from others, despite the fast-flowing water.
