Speaking at a press conference in Sweden, Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom touched on the relationship with Turkiye. Billstrom said, “We have a good relationship with Turkiye because thanks to our membership in NATO we are now full military allies,” he said. He used that expression.
“Personally I feel that things are going according to plan,” Billstrom said, referring to the imminent signing of a security pact agreed upon at a tripartite meeting between Turkey, Sweden and NATO in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius.
“I look forward to meeting Fidan as soon as possible.”
Billstrom said he was looking forward to the NATO summit to be held in Washington from July 9 to 11, saying, “I look forward to meeting and speaking with my counterpart, Hakan Fidan, as soon as possible, hopefully at the NATO summit that will be held in Washington next week,” he said.
The Swedish Minister stated his country’s position on Israel’s ongoing attacks on Gaza:
Sweden has always supported a humanitarian ceasefire as soon as possible, the release of all prisoners and a return to negotiations towards a two-State solution in which Israel and Palestine would exist side by side as states with the rest of the world, providing security guarantees to these two peoples.
