OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) — The Independence Day celebration isn’t over yet, Acadiana. Backyard Food Truck Park is open in Opelousas and is hosting the Freedom Mini Fest event this weekend. Now it’s time to eat.
“We’ll have, I think, six trucks lined up. It’s good food. We’ll have good burgers, good Creole food. We’ll have live music. We’ll have a stage open up here and people will be performing,” said Mark Kidder, owner of The Back Yard Food Truck Park.
Kidder said plans for the food truck park have been in the works since earlier this year, with the first opening expected in early summer.
Now that the park is open and ready to continue the fun over the Fourth of July weekend, Kidder said it’s rewarding to see all the hard work and planning pay off.
“Oh man, it’s been awesome,” Kidder said. “It’s been so much work and time and trying so hard to get it all together, so it’s good to see it all come together and see how it turns out and how many people are here.”
Events like Freedom MiniFest mark the early stages of events at the park, and Kidder said there are already plans for growth as the park continues to provide family-friendly entertainment and great food for years to come.
“It’s great. We’re still working on some things. We still want to put in the play area, we still want to put in some things for the kids to enjoy. That’s why we’re doing this event this weekend. It’s something the whole family can enjoy,” Kidder said.
The Freedom Mini Fest event will run until Saturday, July 6. Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy great music, atmosphere and food.
