The New York Mets will be offering a $5 promotion on a variety of food and drink items on Tuesdays at Citi Field through the end of the regular season.
The $5 items include a 12-ounce Coors Light draft beer, a 22-ounce fountain soda, a 20-ounce bottled water, a Nathan’s hot dog, a regular soft pretzel and a box of popcorn. The promotion begins when the Mets host the Washington Nationals on July 9 at 7:10 pm ET and will remain in effect for the remaining five Tuesday home games, although the team notes that quantity limits apply.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Mets said of the move, “We wanted to create an engaging offering that would satisfy our adult audience,” and “We’re taking a trial-and-error approach to understand what our fans prefer, and we’ll continue to experiment to provide the best experience for our fans.”
Earlier in the season, the Mets hosted a $1 hot dog night on a Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs, drawing 22,880 fans. The other three Tuesday games at Citi Field were very well received due to the quality of the opponents. The Mets drew 42,824 fans for their Subway Series matchup against the division rival Yankees, 36,021 fans for their game against the Dodgers, and 30,046 fans for their game against the NL East Phillies. Their other two Tuesday games drew smaller crowds: 22,070 fans for their game against the Marlins and 18,398 fans for their game against the Pirates.
According to Baseball-Reference, the Mets are expected to average about 27,000 fans per home game in 2024, which would rank 19th in MLB. Last season, the Mets finished a few spots higher, 14th, with an average attendance of 31,772. Citi Field has a capacity of 41,922. The Mets have won 13 of their last 17 games to improve to a 41-41 record. The Mets are third in the NL East behind the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies, just 1.5 games out of the third NL Wild Card spot.
MLB saw a 9.6% increase in total attendance from 2022-2023.
