Messages shared by Thomas Matthew Crooks, the man who tried to assassinate former President Donald Trump, on a gaming platform have been discovered, revealing he was being followed as a suspect just an hour before the attack.
President Trump suffered an injury to his ear during the assassination attempt.
Trump was shot in the ear at a rally in Pennsylvania, one person in the crowd behind him was killed and two seriously injured, and the attacker, 20-year-old Crooks, was killed.
The FBI is continuing to investigate how and why the scammers did this.
According to AA News, three sources from the investigation team told ABC they discovered messages from the scammers on gaming platform Steam.
“July 13th will be my premiere and we’ll see what happens,” Crooks said, according to a source.
Photos of Trump and President Joe Biden were found on Crooks’ phone, and a search was also made of internet records of the trajectory of a bullet that was fired against the wind at long range, the report said.
Reported as suspicious
Moreover, leaked information from a closed-door briefing given to senators by Secret Service and FBI officials yesterday revealed that an hour before Trump took the podium, Crooks was seen walking around the plaza with a bag on his back, attracting attention and holding a rangefinder in his hand while taking measurements.
Officials who spoke to the Associated Press said Crooks’ “suspicious” behavior was reported by radio to higher authorities and his photo was taken from the scene and shared. After Trump took the stage, Crooks disappeared from view and was reportedly spotted on the roof of a building 400 feet (135 meters) away.
Police officers were alerted by rally attendees and tried to go to the roof, but retreated before responding when Crooks pointed his gun at them, after which Crooks reportedly fired his gun at President Trump.
