You’ve finally found a date where all of your friends can hang out together. The problem? Everyone has different tastes. One friend is vegan, another doesn’t want to go uptown, and one has a dog that never leaves. With so many things to consider, you’re going to need some help finding the perfect place to go.
Today we’re introducing a new way to find places using generative AI that helps you get exactly that, no matter how specific, niche, or broad your needs are. Just say what you’re looking for and our Large Scale Language Models (LLMs) will analyze map details for over 250 million places and trusted insights from our community of over 300 million contributors to instantly suggest where to go.
This early access experiment will begin this week in the United States and will be conducted with some of the most active and passionate members of the Maps community: Local Guides. Their insights and valuable feedback will help shape this feature so that it becomes available to everyone over time.
New ways to discover places with generative AI
For example, say you’re visiting San Francisco and want to spend a few hours thrift-shopping in search of unique vintage items. Just ask Maps what you’re looking for, such as “Places with a vintage vibe in San Francisco.” Our AI models analyze Maps’ rich information (nearby businesses and places) along with photos, ratings, and reviews from the Maps community to make trusted suggestions.
Along with results organized into handy categories like clothing stores, record stores, and flea markets, you’ll see a photo carousel and review summary that highlights why the place is worth visiting.
Maybe someone wants to grab a bite to eat somewhere with a vintage vibe. Keep the conversation going with a follow-up question like, “What about lunch?” Maps will suggest nearby places that fit the vintage vibe you’re looking for, like an old-fashioned diner. From there, you can save and organize places in lists, share them with friends, or revisit them in the future.
