The “Masters of the Net” made their debut at the Antalya stage of the Nations League (VNL) organized by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), playing against Canada in the first match.
The first set of the match, which attracted a lot of attention from volleyball fans in Antalya Sports Hall, started with both players scoring. Turkey focused on the set in the first five minutes, increasing their lead to eight points at 18-10. Turkiye narrowed the gap despite his opponent’s efforts and won the set 25-17, taking a 1-0 lead.
The second set started with mutual points. Canada made consecutive service points (aces) and took a one-point lead (11-12) for the first time in the set. Canada maintained their advantage with effective play and won the set 25-23, making the score 1-1.
Turquier got off to a bad start in the third set, trailing 8-4. Turquier bounced back from the break and, with the support of his fans, took the lead for the first time in the set, making the score 18-17. From this point on, Canada stepped up their game again and took the set 25-21, making the score 2-1.
In the fourth set, Turkiye was unable to respond to his opponent’s effective play and lost the set 25-21, losing the match 3-1.
The result marks a terrible start to the league for the Crescent and Stars.
Canadian player Stephen Marr said in his post-match statement that he enjoyed playing in Antalya. Mahr said he was happy with the good start he had in the league.
The Crescent Star team will play the Netherlands on May 23rd, France on May 25th, and the United States on May 26th.
