Dutch authorities have announced that from October 1, 2022, the majority of Turkish citizens will be required to apply for a long-term visa (MVV) if they plan to stay in the Netherlands for more than 90 days.
Currently, many categories of Turkish applicants are exempted from long-term entry visa requirements, including highly skilled workers, entrepreneurs, and those seeking family reunification.
However, according to the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security, most residents will have to apply for long-term visas as soon as the new rules start coming into force.
Please note that certain exceptions only apply if you have existing grounds for exemption.
“Going forward, the MVV requirement will reapply in this situation unless there is a reason to make an exception based on one of the existing exemption grounds,” the ministry said.
Apart from the above, the Ministry explained that Turkish nationals wishing to apply for a permanent residence permit in the Netherlands must successfully complete the integration process.
It was further emphasized that if foreign nationals are not exempted from the new regulations, their residence permit applications will be refused.
The ministry said the new rules on long-term visas were imposed to end illegal practices such as people entering the Netherlands for work purposes without the required documents and once there, applying for a residence permit. did.
“This also puts an end to the growing practice of Turkish nationals coming to the Netherlands for work to enter the country illegally or on short-stay Schengen visas and then to exercise their right of association and submit applications. “You can reside without having a valid MVV and you cannot work illegally while your application is being processed,” the ministry’s statement said.
Further information on this issue is expected to be revealed in the coming months, before the new rules officially come into force.
Previously, the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service said that highly skilled immigrants who are exempt from long-term visa requirements can start working in the Netherlands even if their residence permit is not yet ready.
Earlier this month, the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service announced: “From July 22, 2022, highly skilled immigrants who are not eligible for the MVV will be able to start working if their residence documents are not yet ready.”
Nevertheless, it was emphasized that this only applies if the authorization is issued after 22 July 2022. Skilled workers who were approved before July 22 will still need to obtain a residence approval sticker to be allowed to work in the Netherlands.
