Silverton said she prefers nuts whole, but always carries a little Maldon sea salt with her.
“I have a beautiful little sterling silver case in which I keep some flaked sea salt – Maldon salt, of course,” says the author of Cookies that Changed My Life.
“When you go out somewhere, you don’t want to upset someone if the food isn’t seasoned enough. A little extra salt always helps.”
Of course, the Chef’s Table star has a ton of great advice, and she also shared some tips to make summer entertaining easier, starting with some great appetizer ideas.
“The easiest appetizer to serve to a crowd is probably chips and dip. I think when people are just standing outside casually, the act of picking up some chips and dipping them is a crowd pleaser,” she says.
The former opening pastry chef at Wolfgang Puck’s Spago believes your chip and dip options don’t have to be fancy: “I love serving my potato chips with Lipton’s French onion dip – you can’t go wrong with that,” she laughs.
“I also love tortilla chips with green salsa, red salsa, and guacamole,” Silverton says. “We have them at every backyard party in the summer.” Ah, just like our dream girl!
We asked the culinary legend what else she likes to have on hand when entertaining, and her list included fresh flowers, a pitcher of Aperol Spritz for easy serving, items to keep room temperature foods from getting hot, and ways to keep cold foods cold.
